Traction alopecia is a gradual process that can easily sneak up on you. If you are noticing your hairline thinning or receding, you may have traction alopecia. Don’t worry! Take note of early warning signs and ways to prevent it.

Early Warning Signs

If you notice thinning at your front hairline, this could be an early warning sign of traction alopecia. If you experience any changes to the texture, thickness, or strength of your hair, don’t ignore it. Any change to your hair, no matter how minor, could be your hair trying to warn you that you are damaging it.

Tenderness at the scalp can also be a sign. If there are small, broken hairs at the areas of your scalp that are balding along with small red bumps, this is a big red flag. If these small red bumps are appearing at locations where there is significant hair pulling, you may need to change your hair routine to prevent permanent hair damage. If your braids are giving you a headache, listen to what your body is telling you.

Ways to Prevent Traction Alopecia

If you notice any of the symptoms stated above, don’t freak out! You can still save your hair from permanent damage by changing a few things about your hair routine. Give your hair a rest from constant tight hair dos and rough hair styling. If you wear a tight and heavy hairstyle, such as a tight weave, it is important to nourish your scalp on wash day with strengthening products. The Keranique Curl Preserve Scalp Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner for Textured Hair and the Keranique Intensive Overnight Hair Repair Serum could be the trio that helps to bring life back to your hair.

The word routine, meaning a repetitive action, can be exactly what is causing the issue with your hair. The important thing to remember is to change up the style of your hair every so often and to refrain from constant overly tight styles that can lead to hair loss. The right routine can bring your hair back to health.

Your description of traction alpaca is exactly what my hair has done. I am a keranique customer now but what exactly do you recommend. I would prefer no auto shipments until I find what I need. My scalp does stay tender sometimes more so than other times. I have changed hair style and anything I can think of.
