How to Avoid Split Ends

No matter what, you will likely get some split ends in your hair at some point in your life. You may forget to get a trim, or your hair may become dry. If you use hot tools like straighteners and curling irons, your hair may be prone to split ends even faster. When you have split ends, the best solution is to get a hair cut and cut them off. You can also use hair masks or deep conditioning treatments to moisturize your ends and reduce the damage. However, there are ways to prevent split ends from happening in the first place.

Here are some ways to avoid getting split ends:

  1. Don’t wash and style your hair every day. Unless you have very oily hair that gets greasy by midday, you shouldn’t wash your hair every day. Washing your hair every other day or every few days lets your body repair your hair with its own natural oils. It also reduces the damage done by styling tools like hair dryers, straighteners, and curling irons.
  2. Make sure you use the right brush. When your hair is wet, use a wide tooth comb to brush through your hair and remove tangles gently. You may also want to use a detangling spray if your hair has a lot of knots in it. When your hair is dry, use a paddle brush for daily brushing. Don’t use brushes with hard bristles because they can rip your hair out if you aren’t careful.
  3. When you do wash your hair, use this routine for your best hair yet. Use shampoo only on your scalp. The suds will fall down and cleanse your entire head of hair. Then use conditioner only on your ends. This will ensure that your scalp gets clean without adding residue and your ends get moisture that will prevent split ends.
  4. When you get out of the shower, be careful with your towel drying. Don’t rub your hair with a towel harshly. This can cause damage to your hair and cause split ends. Wrap a towel around your hair and squeeze gently.
  5. When you use hot styling tools, make sure that you use a heat protectant spray first. You also may want to lower the temperature of the straightener or curling iron to prevent damage or take breaks from using them from time to time.
  6. Get regular trims. Of course, the key to preventing split ends is getting regular trims. Most hairstylists recommend getting a cut every six weeks or so. This will help with hair growth and your hair’s overall health.

Hi Lena, we are so sorry to hear about your experience with Keranique. Keep in mind, it is not uncommon for some users to experience drying as we all have different types and textures of hair. The most important component for regrowth is our Regrowth Treatment with 2% Minoxidil. Using that twice a day on the thinning areas on your scalp will ensure that you experience regrowth. The other products within our Regrowth System support the strength and thickness of your existing hair and the new hair as it emerges.

The key to Keranique is not only finding the best way to apply the Regrowth Treatment for your scalp, but also incorporate the other products within your normal hair care regimen.
For the Regrowth Treatment with 2% Minoxidil, some people find that the best way to absorb the treatment is to lightly spritz your scalp with water to enable your skin to absorb the Minoxidil better, whereas others find that they can absorb the product sufficiently without dampening the scalp. Remember, the Regrowth Treatment should be applied to your scalp, not your existing hair. And a little goes a long way – if you don’t need 6-sprays, don’t use 6.

Similarly with the other products, incorporating the Scalp Stimulating Shampoo and Volumizing Keratin Conditioner – use them as you would normally shampoo and condition. And with the Lift & Repair Treatment Spray, it is heat activated – if you blow dry, curl or straighten your hair – work this into your hair at the root as you style. You can also use it as a light-weight/hold hair spray.

If, you find that you are still experiencing dryness – there are other avenues to explore. We offer multiple Shampoo/Conditioning formulas that all contain our Keratin Amino Complex, which helps to thicken and strengthen your hair, to better customize Keranique to suit your hair:

      – Deep Hydration
      – Damage Control
      – Curl Preserve
      – Color Boost

Alternatively, we offer a product called Marula Oil Hair Mist which is a light-weight, nutrient rich scalp and hair moisturizer to better enable manageability.
      We hope this helps
      Thank you
      -Keranique
