DIY Hair Marks for Dry Hair

Here are some of our top recipes for DIY hair masks if you are experiencing dry hair problems:

Use the power of strawberries

Mix together one cup of pureed strawberries, one egg yolk and three tablespoons of olive oil. Work the mixture into your hair and cover with a plastic shower cap, plastic bag or plastic wrap. Whatever you have on hand works fine. Leave on for 20-30 minutes and then rinse with cool water. You can use a conditioner after you rinse for even more moisture. Shampoo and condition as normal after to get rid of all of the gunk. The strawberries, in particular, may be hard to remove.

The strawberries will add moisture and shine and the egg yolk will strengthen your hair.

Save your overripe bananas

Gather one ripe avocado, one ripe banana and two tablespoons of coconut oil. Blend the ingredients until mixed and spread the mixture through your hair. Leave on for about 20-30 minutes. Rinse out and then shampoo and condition as normal. If you have thin hair, you should only use one tablespoon of coconut oil. Coconut oil is a great way to moisturize your hair and you can use it plain as a DIY mask. The banana and avocado will soften your hair and promote hair growth and strength.

Get rid of buildup with lemon and apple cider vinegar

If your hair is dry and dull because of product buildup, mix together a half a cup of plain yogurt, one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and one tablespoon of lemon juice. You’ll want to dilute the lemon juice with two tablespoons of water unless you are okay with possibly lightening your hair color. You could also add one tablespoon of honey. Apply and massage into your scalp, leave on for one minute and then rinse. Shampoo and condition as normal, especially if you used honey.

Get a little minty

To invigorate and soften your hair, combine one to two tablespoons of coconut oil, one tablespoon of jojoba oil and three drops of peppermint oil. Mix together and massage onto hair. Leave on for about 15-30 minutes. Rinse with warm water and then shampoo and condition as normal.

Which DIY hair mask will you try? Do you have any of these ingredients already in your home?
