keranique-hair-color-tipsSometimes you’re being drawn to a new hair color, but you’re not sure if you want to commit to the change.  Thankfully there is an array of temporary ways to color your hair!  If you’re looking for a bit of fun, but don’t want long-standing change consider these tips and tricks below:

1. CHALKING

There are some temporary ways to color your hair that don’t show up well unless you’re blonde.  This method works really well for dark hair. You can buy “hair chalk” but it doesn’t work as nicely as buying chalk pastels (NOT oil based) that an artist would use. You can get them relatively cheap and the results are much better.  When taking rainbow hues and other trendy techniques for a spin, consider using hair chalk like Bumble and Bumble’s spray-on version.  The color in this method lasts for about one shampoo.

2. COLORED MASCARA

Colored mascara is easy to find and while choices are a bit limited, the color will stay in your hair great until you wash it out!  Consider using Hard Candy’s mascara because they have a fairly substantial variety of colors to choose from, as well as “glitter” mascara, which is beautiful. This temporary “dye” is very simple and incredibly fast.  This method leaves color for about 1-2 shampoos.

3. KOOL AID

Kool Aid has been a hair-coloring trend for decades, but it has had a resurgence in popularity recently as an alternative to hair chalking. The only problem with this technique of dying your hair is that the amount of time it stays in is based solely on your hair texture and color, so you may want to test it out on a small area before committing fully to the idea.  Color will last for about 2 weeks- 6 months, depending on your hair.

4. FOOD COLORING

Using food coloring to dye your hair is really easy and almost always lasts longer than a washing or two. If you have blonde hair, the color may stay in longer and be a deeper shade, while if you have dark hair, it may just add a hint of color. Be aware in this method that everyone’s hair is different and results vary.  Color will last for about 1 week – 3 months, depending on your hair.

5. COLORED HAIRSPRAY

Coloring your hair with this method is super-easy.  You can choose from shades that cross the entire rainbow. They are fun for crazy hair day or for attending a sporting event for your favorite team. Use colored hairspray with the assurance that it will wash out with only one shampoo. Be aware that it may rub off on furniture or clothing.
