With the cold weather approaching and the damage it can cause on your hair, we sat down with our Brand Ambassador, Franco Della Grazia to discuss his favorite winter hair care tips, and how to best care for your hair in the cold months ahead.
As we move from warm to cold weather, our hair is still dry from those hot summer days. As it gets colder, we are also inside with the heat on more often, which dries out both your skin and hair. Now is the time to replenish the moisture and re-hydrate our hair. Women’s #1 hair concern heading into winter is the dryness of their hair.
Exfoliate the scalp. Using the Follicle Revitalizing Mask, refresh the scalp while deep conditioning your hair. To use before your shampoo, damp/mist the hair with water and apply to scalp. Let sit for 10 minutes then rinse out. For quick scalp exfoliation, squeeze access moisture from the hair after shampooing and rinsing hair as normal. Massage the product into the scalp for 2-3 minutes while still in the shower and then rinse. For best results use 1-2 times a week.
Use the right shampoo & conditioner. Shampoo is meant to cleanse the hair, while conditioner is meant to soften it. You do not want a cream based conditioner, which will weigh your hair down. Our Deep Hydration Scalp Stimulating Shampoo and Conditioner is a great way to hydrate your hair while protecting it from cuticle damage.
Apply conditioner correctly. When applying conditioner, lean your head to the side and squeeze the conditioning into your pony tail. Avoid the scalp during application as this can flatten your hair and cause the oily feeling faster. Conditioner is most important at the mid lengths and the ends of your hair. Your natural oils will moisturize the top of your head.
Use oils. Oils can replenish the moisture in your hair when used correctly. Generally, you don’t need the added oils in the top of your scalp; it’s more about the mid length and the ends. Using Keranique’s Marula Oil Hair Mist, apply to the palm of your hands and rub hands together to heat the product up. Then, run through the length of your hair. The oil will moisturize, condition and improve the appearance of the hair.
Direct heat to your hair is the enemy. Try to minimize the use of hot tools. It will continue to dry out your hair even faster than in the summer. This is because you are indoors with the heat on, causing you to be in dryer environments on a consistent basis.
Give your hair and scalp a good brushing. Another preventative tip is to give your hair, and more importantly your scalp a really good brushing. This will revitalize the scalp while taking out all of the dead skin.
