First – What is the reason for taking hair supplements?
Let’s remember how vitamins work- they work from the inside – however you still have to make sure you are taking care of your hair and doing what you need to do from the outside ( as mentioned in our previous Facebook lives)

Some reason you may want to take a hair supplement – hair thinning; lack of vitamins, iron, protein, nutrients, diet may not be up to par,

Second – how do vitamins work?
The ingredients that are in the vitamins you chose are essential. Most vitamins on the market have the most popular ingredients such as B complex – Biotin, Folic Acid, Vitamins B, C, & A. Ingredients such as the ones mentioned above help the body process energy, help aid in hair regrowth , may help restore shine and thickness to strands.

The vitamins you are taking are not smart in knowing what exactly you are targeting. The same as you work out your body does not know where you want to lose the most fat. Vitamins will help the functions of the body to do what it’s supposed to do – and will help aid in hair and nails

As we have mentioned before – being patient is essential! Most vitamins do not start working until 90 days after taking – we also have to be consistent with taking them as directed!

Make sure you know the difference between Minerals and vitamins when deciding to take a hair supplement. Here is a list of a few examples

Minerals – Calcium, Iron, Copper, Zinc, Magnesium
Vitamins – Biotin, Folic Acid, Vitamins A, E, B, D & C. Niacin, .

A good thing to note is any vitamins that say they are plant based is basically the grinding up of whole foods.

Third – What are the differences between vitamins and why do I need to take them?
There are two different class of vitamins Water Soluble and Fat Soluble Vitamins – if we know what the differences are it will help aid in hair health as well as overall health.

Fat Soluble Vitamins (Vitamins A, D, E & K) are found in meat, animal fat, veggie oils, dairy products, and fish oils. Your body stores any excess in liver and fatty tissues. What does this mean- you do not need to get them from food sources every day – because it is transported in fat

Water Soluble Vitamins (Vitamins B, C, & Folic Acid) are found in meat, fish, fruit, veggies, whole grains these vitamins cannot be stored because you pass them going to the bathroom( through Urine) therefore need to be taken every day. -Transported in water.

Fourth – I decided on a vitamin OR I am currently taking a vitamin – what’s next
Remember it is best to take your vitamin/ supplement with or right after a meal and not on an empty stomach

It is good to know that vitamins just like fruit lose their value if not left in a cool place. I would recommend to store in a dark cool place – a refrigerator with a sealed lid – works perfect.

As we mentioned before – when starting a supplement or vitamin it’s always best to know why you are taking them and usually it’s good to know the levels of vitamins and minerals your body has – the reason being because sometimes you can get too much

Too much vitamin D or C can lead to kidney stones
Too much iron can lead to constipation
Too much Iodine can lead to thyroid problems
